Breaking - Inside Out Behind-The-Scenes Sneak Peek Coming Next Week

Inside Out concept artwork

Breaking - Disney Movies Anywhere notified members to keep an eye out for the final week of the Pixar Summer Movies To Go promotion, but they also subtly mentioned that a "behind-the-scenes peek at Pixar's latest, Inside Out", would also be releasing somewhere between August 26 and September 1. We're assuming it will launch on August 26 alongside the final Monsters University Pixar Summer Movies To Go promotion in which all Pixar movies will be priced at $14.99 USD each between the dates listed.

Disney Movies Anywhere promo mentioning Inside Out

It will be interesting to see what details are revealed within the Inside Out sneak peek, but we're assuming that Director, Pete Docter, may do something similar to what Dan Scanlon did when he displayed concept artwork and covered the storyline for Monsters University highlighting brief moments of animation while introducing the main characters. Again, we don't know for sure, but we're speculating this will be similar.

Additionally, if you haven't read our review of the Toy Story of TERROR! Blu-Ray, be sure to take a look at that post as we spotted what appears to be a piece of Inside Out concept artwork in the background as well.

Take a look Behind-The-Scenes of Pixar's 'Inside Out' - First Look At Riley

Riley from Inside Out

Disney Movies Anywhere has just launched a two minute behind-the-scenes sneak peek at Pixar's highly anticipated Inside Out (bundled along with the Monsters University Summer Movies To Go video). Hitting theaters on June 19, 2015, Inside Out will take us into the mind of Riley, a 11-year-old girl who is uprooted from her midwest life to start anew in San Francisco, California. As Riley grows up and enters her teenage years, her emotions and personality change too. Although Riley is an important part of the movie, her emotions are the film's main characters: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust.

The sneak peek, introduced by Pete Docter (Director) and Jonas Rivera (Producer), gives us our first look at Riley, shows some great test animation of the emotions and also discusses the throwback animation style the team used in the movie. Rivera said, "We really wanted to push and caricature and squash and stretch and go back to some of those principles that got us loving animation". Hearing Pete and Jonas discuss the the old Hollywood style of animation really excites us - it's going to feel so fresh and nostalgic at the same time.

'Toy Story That Time Forgot' Battlesaur Sky Broadband Commercial

At this year's San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), Pixar held a Toy Story That Time Forgot panel moderated by famed compose, Michael Giacchino. Guests of the panel were treated to background storyboards, still images and even saw a sneak peek of the short along with images of the Battlesaur toys (which will be released this holiday season). Although the half-hour television special isn't premiering until December 2, 2014, Sky (A UK-based media company which also released a Toy Story of TERROR! clip last year) has just released a hilarious commercial allowing us to get a glimpse at the "dangerously delusional" band of Battlesaurs. Be sure to watch the commercial which is uploaded on our PixarPost YouTube channel below.

The hilarious fifty-one second commercial was directed by veteran television-spot and Partysaurus Rex director, Mark Walsh and we have to say that the character development by Steve Purcell-and-team is just brilliant - the Battlesaurs draw you in right away and make you want to see more. Speaking of Steve Purcell, not only is he the director of the half-hour special, but he also voices the hilarious and somewhat goofy, Cleric (pictured below).

First Clip of Pixar's Upcoming Short 'Lava'

Pixar's Volcanic love story is set to hit theaters alongside Inside Out on June 19, 2015 - but today we have our first glimpse of the poignant short thanks to Yahoo! Movies. The clip, shows Uku (pronounced ooh-koo) singing a love song in hopes of finding love for himself - but how does an immovable formation of earth find love? That's the element that director, James Ford Murphy (Jim) wants to tell in a way that moves you emotionally and visually.

Check out this clip below, uploaded to Disney France's YouTube channel.

You can tell from the clip above that Uku seems to be the only one who is alone - heck, even the clouds are coupled-up and seem to have arms outstretched towards each other. So, how do you make a giant volcano show his emotions when he can't easily move? The Yahoo! Movies article mentions -
To create the face of the mountain, Murphy used an amalgam of the faces of Kuahna Torres Kahele, the musician who is the voice of the mountain; Honeymooners star Jackie Gleeson, and the bulldog in the Chuck Jones animated classic Feed the Kitty, which Murphy considers perhaps his all-time favorite cartoon. “That cartoon has so much heart and so much of the humor comes from genuine emotion,” he says. “That was a major inspiration for us.”

Lava recently had it's premiere at the Hiroshima Film Festival in which famed Hawaiian singer, Kuahna Torres Kahele (voice of Uku), posted some photos from the festival on his personal Facebook page. Be sure to check out the Forum post (started by Dan the Pixar Fan) to view some additional details and more photos. In addition to the great photos, we also think we have found three additional film festivals in which the short may be shown as well (read our finding in the Lava Forum post).

Potential Film Festivals that Lava may be shown at:

Director-Jim Murphy from the Hiroshima Film Festival

Very excitingly, we talked with Lava supervising animator, Aaron Hartline on August 27 as part of episode 31 of the Pixar Post Podcast (which will be released tomorrow, Friday August 29 - stay tuned). In the interview, Aaron talks about some of the technical challenges, working alongside Jim Murphy as well as another facial inspiration for Uku which wasn't mentioned in the Yahoo! Movies article. So, what are your thoughts on the first public clip of Lava?

Sharon Calahan's Historic 'American Society of Cinematographers' Membership

History was made earlier this year as Pixarian Sharon Calahan, ASC was the first CG Director of Photography accepted into the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC). The ASC was the first organization in the film industry exclusively devoted to honoring professional achievement. Membership is extended only by invitation to those who are actively engaged as directors of photography and have demonstrated outstanding ability. Calahan's induction into the ASC is a complete game-changer, carving the path for future directors of photography within the animation field.

Lighting example from Finding Nemo

Calahan's induction comes as no surprise to us as her eye for subtle details has always left in awe - as well as the work of her team. Although every department puts their stamp on the film, there is no greater impact to the finished product (visually) than the brilliant work that Sharon and her team have developed over the years. Her 20-year career (all with Pixar) spans a multitude of Pixar's most beloved films including - Toy StoryA Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, Finding Nemo, Cars 2 and Ratatouille.

Cinematography Database recently had a discussion with Calahan to discuss her career, advice for upcoming artists as well as other technical details. Below are a few standout questions, but be sure to read the entire detailed interview on Cinematography Database.

Exclusive In-Depth Review - Everything You Need To Know About Disney Infinity 2.0

$

0

Are you ready for the next edition of the famed game, Disney Infinity? We spent the last several days digging into the game, writing notes, cataloging power discs and even have a few tips we wanted to pass along to you. Read along to learn about the Marvel Play Sets, the Disney Originals Toy Box and everything you need to get started in Disney Infinity 2.0.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Like the first Disney Infinity, the 2.0 edition combines the game disc for your console (PS3, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, WiiU) along with the beautifully designed figures which, when placed on the included Disney Infinity 2.0 base, appear in the game. Be sure to check out this video uploaded to the official Disney Infinity YouTube channel for a great overview of how the game works.

DISNEY INFINITY 2.0 OVERALL REVIEW

The enhancements to Disney Infinity 2.0 are seen, felt and experienced from the moment you get started. Most notable is the addition of the skill tree which can be individually built for each character. Like before, as you find capsules and beat missions, your character gains experience points and are "leveled up". As the characters achieve a higher level you will be able to assign individual skills in the skill tree which enhance that character's in-game ability. The reason I find this to be the most significant enhancement in the game is that not only does it give you an incentive to level up your character, but you can also build out your team to be balanced - using the best character for the mission at that time. For instance, while you may choose to build Thor's skill tree to make him extremely powerful, you could choose to build Captain America to have super speed and extra health.

Thor's Skill Tree

Other areas which really caught my attention when playing were:
  • The time is takes characters and power discs to appear in the game after you've placed them on the base is about two-times as fast as before. Although I never really complained about it before, it's a great addition to the game as you'll be switching characters a lot more often with the skill tree.

Stunning WALL•E Recreation Gains Another Enhancement - Eve

Mike Senna is a skilled prop and robotics builder that has created one of the most highly regarded replicas of Pixar's lovable trash-bot, WALL•E. His creation is nothing short of jaw dropping. WALL•E moves, talks and emotes with such similarity to his cartoon-counterpart that you'd think that you entered the movie itself. When thinking of the film it's impossible to separate the sweet love story between WALL•E and Eve - now Mike has now crafted a beautiful version of Eve as well. His most recent video shows his initial test of a stabilization system for the two characters. We can't wait to see what's next for Eve and how the two will interact over time.

To view more information on the WALL•E recreation and ways you can meet WALL•E face-to-face, check out Mike's Adventures with WALL•E page. Additionally, you can also read more information about another wonderful WALL•E recreation on Michael McMaster's, McMaster Robot Projects page.

Pixar's upcoming television special, Toy Story That Time Forgot, featuring the quirky and delusional Battlesaur gang will find our familiar Toy Story pals in quite a few precarious situations. As seen in the television premiere poster (via EW), we have our first look at the group surrounded by Raptorian Guards as they appear to be preparing for an intense battle! You have to love the petrified look in Rex's eyes, while Buzz is the consummate professional who's always ready for anything.

As a refresher, below is a summary of the plot details - additional information on the television special can be found in the Related Post links at the bottom of the page.
Toy Story That Time Forgot, a new Christmas special featuring your favorite characters from the Toy Story films, will air on TUESDAY, DECEMBER 2 (8:00-8:30 p.m., ET). During a post-Christmas play date, the Toy Story gang find themselves in uncharted territory when the coolest set of action figures ever turn out to be dangerously delusional. It's all up to Trixie, the triceratops, if the gang hopes to return to Bonnie's room in this Toy Story That Time Forgot.
In case you haven't seen the hilarious Sky Broadband commercial for the special, we have added it to this post - we couldn't resist watching it again after we saw the new poster.

Finally, the previous poster, created by Mike Mignola was revealed back in July leading up to the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con.

Director of Lava, Jim Murphy, Chats About Geology, Music & The Pixar Pitch Process - Updated with 2 Interviews

Alongside the June 19, 2015 release of Pixar's next feature film, Inside Out, theatergoers will also see the release of Lava, the volcanic short film wrapped around a love story. You may not immediately think of a love story when you think of volcanoes, but in a recent interview with Coming Soon (thanks to a tip from our reader, Bryan L.), Lava director Jim Murphy chats about everything from the beauty of the Hawaiian islands (where the short film takes place), to the emotional elements of music, to the actual pitch process at Pixar. It really helps set up the element of "two ships passing in the night" looking for love - or, lava.

We also found it very interesting to learn more about Pixar's storied research process. Jim mentioned that although they (of course) had to take some liberties with talking volcanoes, they did stay true to one element of the geological history of the Hawaiian Islands. Volcanoes form and grow over hotspots in the ocean and over time, as they continue to drift along with the tectonic plates they drift off and another volcano will take its place. With the story of Lava, Pixar kept true to this premise as we know that the love story takes place over millions of years and involves the movement of Uku (the film's main character) and Lele within the Hawaiian waters.

As the December 2 television premiere of Toy Story That Time Forgot approaches, more and more news of the 21-minute special has been hitting the internet. For those that watched the re-airing of Pixar's first television special, Toy Story of TERROR!, on October 15 (8:00 PM) you were treated to the first television commercial highlighting the dinosaur-inspired film. The 30-second commercial sets up a great juxtaposition between the humor of the television special, paired against the intense, gladiator-style battles - check it out below.

To highlight some of the hilarity that was shown cinematic commercial, we have included a few screenshots below. Who couldn't love the crayon smashing scene with Reptillus Maximus with the ultra slow motion debris flying into Buzz and Woody's faces?! Or the all-too-hilarious moment with Rex uttering, "well this seems festive" while sporting his new mechanical arms!

Monsters University Baseball Cap for Adults

Ever since the removal of the storefront from the amazing, yet fictitious, Monsters University website, we've received many inquiries regarding the Monsters U baseball cap. The number one question is how it can be purchased now that it has been removed from the store. Well, good news friends, the Monsters University hat is back (temporarily) at DisneyStore.com, so be sure to pick it up before it's gone.

You may notice that this version of the cap has the frayed brim, just like Mike Wazowski's hat did in the film. Previously, this cap (with the frayed bill) was only available in Disney Parks as the prior DisneyStore.com version had a clean brim. I always enjoyed this extra detail on the hat and thought it added a fun level of authenticity.

The Good Dinosaur Director Confirmed - Peter Sohn

$

After much speculation, we now have confirmation from Pixar that Peter Sohn will take over the directing reins for The Good Dinosaur, set for a theatrical release on November 25, 2015. Just over a year ago, we learned that The Good Dinosaur lead director Bob Peterson would be stepping off the project as the film had concerns with the story. Peter Sohn, the film's co-Director (at the time) was a natural fit to step in as the new lead director, but Pixar was mum on assigning the role officially until everything was sorted out with the story. (In fact, Pixar management brought in a power-team of veteran directors and storytellers to work out the kinks before announcing the role.)

After the film's delay, fans have been eagerly awaiting news and in August of this year, we learned that the film underwent a substantial story change as stated by John Lithgow, the voice of Poppa Dinosaur. This was the first breath of fresh air that The Good Dinosaur was firing on all cylinders again. The Good Dinosaur will be Sohns' feature film directorial debut, though he previously dazzled audiences with his artistry and storytelling in the heartwarming short that he both wrote and directed, Partly Cloudy

In the video below, Pixar officially broke the news on Twitter as Peter sketches Arlo, the film's main character.

In the background of the video you'll also notice Spot, another one of the film's main characters. This artwork has our mind wondering if perhaps Spot will continue to be in the rewrite of the film and what role he may play. What are your thoughts on today's news as well as Spot's appearance in the background of the video?
