Incredibles 2 Auntie Edna Mini Movie Edna Babysits Jack-Jack
On August 17, the news broke that Incredibles 2 would release digitally on October 23 and on physical media (Blu-ray, 4K, Blu-ray), November 6. Although we still don't know all of the special features which will be included, today, Brad Bird (Writer/Director) announced one of those special features in a spectacular way.

Moviegoers adored the on-screen energy between Edna Mode and Jack-Jack — but, what happened in between Bob dropping off Jack-Jack in a haze of exhaustion and when he picked him up later? Fans have been asking this very question to Brad, and frankly everyone else for quite some time and now we have an answer.
Brad Bird noted: Many of you have suggested we show what transpired the night E babysat Jack-Jack. Well, we were WAAAY ahead of you! AUNTIE EDNA, an all-new short directed by i2 story supervisor Ted Mathot will be on the #Incredibles2 in-home release available on Digital 10/23 and Blu-ray 11/6! — Twitter
It should be noted that since this is a mini movie, it will probably only be a few minutes in length (2 or 3 minutes probably) — assuming the previously marked mini-movies for in-home releases are any indication (e.g., Miss Fritter's Racing Skoool).

Additionally, folks who were lucky enough to attend the ticketed, D23 Member Tour of Pixar Animation Studios on August 6, were shown the film. Reactions were very positive and induced a lot of laughter, so get ready.

We can't wait to learn more about the upcoming special features for Incredibles 2, and watch Auntie Edna (which sounds like it will be full of hilarious hijinks). While you wait to watch the short film, check out the book called Babysitting Mode which also takes a look at what happened on their bonding adventure together (video review on our YouTube channel, or click to purchase on Amazon).

Watch a Sneak Peek of Jack-Jack Vs. The Raccoon from 'Incredibles 2'

If you've seen Incredibles 2, you know that Jack-Jack is an absolute scene-stealer. From Bob finally discovering some of Jack-Jack's powers to the hilarious fight scene with a burglarizing raccoon. Today, Pixar released the entire 3-minute scene of Jack-Jack vs. the raccoon, and we've just gotta say, our day has been made!

Did you know that this scene was originally supposed to be slotted into the first film? It's true, Teddy Newton originally conceived of the scene while working on The Incredibles, but they never found a way to slot it into the story properly — and more importantly, they weren't able to execute the scene from a technical standpoint. Although computers might not have been where they needed to be in 2004 when the first film came out, we're so glad it ended up being held until this release. How amazing did Jack-Jack's powers look?! In our many theatrical viewings of the film, this scene just got better and better each time.

Our favorite Jack-Jack moment came when he had the raccoon wrapped up in the patio chair — the way the flames exploded off of him in a rage and how the other chairs ignited as he approached the raccoon was the perfect blend of realistic looking film and comedic storyline. So, why are his powers so random and ever-changing? While we were attending the press days at Pixar Animation Studios for the film, the team joked that it was probably because he was teething!

Incredibles 2 will be available for Digital release on October 23, and on November 6 for 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD release date.

Pixar Short Films Collection Volume 3 Blu-ray case art
Pixar's short films celebrate all that is great about the Studio in less than 8 minutes — the detail, the story, the heart — it's all in there. Two weeks ago, we wrote about a keen-eyed fan who noted that their Disney Movie Club account included a preview for the third volume of Pixar Short Films.

Today, Pixar has officially announced the complete list of short films which will be included in the November 13 release (digital and physical copy) and noted one additional item that we're very excited about — a digital version combining all three volumes (we've been waiting and hoping for this since volumes 1 & 2 didn't come with the digital code).

The 3rd volume will include the following thirteen titles:
  • Bao
  • LOU
  • Piper
  • Lava
  • Sanjay’s Super Team
  • Riley’s First Date?
  • The Radiator Springs 500 1/2
  • Party Central - First time released
  • The Blue Umbrella
  • The Legend Of Mor’du
  • Partysaurus Rex
  • Bonus Mini-Movie: Marine Life Interviews
  • Bonus Mini-Movie: Miss Fritter’s Racing Skoool
In the past, the shorts have also included commentary tracks with the film's Director (and sometimes other key creators as well). We assume this third version also carries that tradition forward as the description notes that it will contain "insightful bonus extras". Watch the trailer for the release embedded below.

'Henri's Hats' by Mike Wu is a Sweet, Adventurous Story Full of Beautiful Illustrations, and Hats — Pixar Artist Showcase Series Book Review

Henri's Hats by Mike Wu - Pixar Artist Showcase
Henri's Hats, the latest release in the Pixar Animation Studios Artist Showcase series of books q(September 4, 2018) is a sweet, adventurous tale featuring Henri — a boy who just needs a little reminder that some of the best adventures take place while using your imagination, rather than your electronic device.

During a trip to his Grandfather's house with his Mother, Henri stumbles upon a chest full of hats which he soon realizes that he can go on countless journeys when he merely places a hat on his head which ignites his imagination. A classic aviator helmet turns Henri into a pilot, a ringmaster hat allows him to perform a big-top animal feat, and a captain's hat allows him to sail into the sunset with ease.

Henri's Hats illustration sample

All 38-pages of the hardcover book are filled with gorgeous illustrations by the author and illustrator, Mike Wu. This book really stood out to us not only because of the story of adventure, but because we really love Mike's illustration styling. A particular spread of pages that we can't get out of our minds is a scene where Henri first arrives at his Papa's house. The illustrations and coloring of the buildings reminded us so much of the background styles of 101 Dalmatians (1961) — which also mirrors a somewhat similar aesthetic of Disney's nine old men.

Henri's Hats also crept into our personal lives as we have since taken our hat collection and placed some of them in our Son's play area. Now, we can go on a snowy adventure on a hot day, or we can pretend we're Peter Pan escaping the clutches of Captain Hook before bedtime. We use our imaginations a lot around our house, so we were thrilled when the pages of the book were so relatable that they jumped right off the page and into our lives.

Like the other Showcase Series books (published by Disney Press), there are also two pages at the end of the book which highlight Mike's "Author Notes". Wu tells about how the story mirrored his own life in a small way and expands on how he got to Pixar and some of the films he's worked on.

Monsters University letterman jacket sweatshirt from shopdisney
Are you ready to show your Monsters University school spirit? We know we are — and in the words of Mike Wazowski, "I've been waiting for this my whole life..." OK, maybe not our whole life but definitely since the June 2013 theatrical release of Pixar's Monsters University. In fact, we loved the film so much that we made our own custom jacket, shirt and replica Dream Journal. Although we did make our own version on the jacket, we always hoped that an official version would be released — and now it has.

This official ShopDisney Monsters University fleece varsity jacket (unisex $49.95) is perfect for the upcoming Fall season with its lightweight sweatshirt construction complete with hoodie, which for us, was the biggest draw to this jacket. The sizing runs slightly large, however, this makes for easy layering on days when it's cooler.

When comparing the ShopDisney version and the film version of the MU jacket, you'll see that they are nearly identical in looks. The detailing of the full embroidered (so cool) MU logo on the back (which measures, 12" x 12"), and the MU varsity-style letterman applique on the front (which measures, 3.5" x 5.5") are flawless designs.

Monsters University Letterman fleece jacket from Disney

As a side note, the snaps on the ShopDisney MU jacket are located on the right side — which is generally where they are located women's garments, men's garments are typically located on the left (the film version jacket design shows the snaps on the left side, see above). While the snap location does not make a difference (and the official ShopDisney promotional photos show a male model wearing the jacket), we just thought we'd point it out since T.J. discovered it while trying on the jacket himself.

Be sure to pick up your Monsters University fleece varsity jacket and get ready to sing the MU Alma Mater song!

Monsters University
We give our heart to you
Wherever children are dreaming
We'll bring them nightmares, too

Oh, Monsters University
Alma Mater hail to you

Buzz Lightyear Makes a Cameo in the New 'Ralph Breaks the Internet' Trailer

Disney released the second full-length trailer for Ralph Breaks the Internet today (Sept. 20), and it appears we have our second Pixar character cameo with Buzz Lightyear hamming it up before a crowd. The scene from the trailer cuts rather quickly, but we can imagine there may be other Pixar character cameos that may appear as the Pixar Animation Studios marquee can be seen in the Disney-themed area of the internet.

If you recall, the first Pixar character cameo was Merida, who was featured alongside fellow Disney princesses. In fact, just over a month ago, Disney released a sneak peek of the film in which we got our first glimpse of Merida speaking with her Scottish accent (a scene that was first premiered a the 2017 D23 Expo). Just like Merida, Buzz Lightyear has been stylized from his original character rig and it is fun to see how the artists at Disney Animation Studios have incorporated these characters into the Disney world.

While he's not a Pixar character, did you also notice Bill Hader (the slug and referee from Monsters University, Fear from Inside Out and more) voicing another character? He hands Vanellope the advertisement and says, "Want to get rich playing video games?"

The official Ralph Breaks the Internet synopsis below:
Ralph Breaks the Internet leaves Litwak’s video arcade behind, venturing into the uncharted, expansive and thrilling world of the internet—which may or may not survive Ralph’s wrecking. Video game bad guy Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) and fellow misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman) must risk it all by traveling to the world wide web in search of a replacement part to save Vanellope’s video game, Sugar Rush. In way over their heads, Ralph and Vanellope rely on the citizens of the internet—the Netizens—to help navigate their way, including Yesss (voice of Taraji P. Henson), who is the head algorithm and the heart and soul of the trend-making site “BuzzzTube,” and Shank (voice of Gal Gadot), a tough-as-nails driver from a gritty online auto-racing game called Slaughter Race. Directed by Rich Moore (Zootopia, Wreck-It Ralph) and Phil Johnston (co-writer Wreck-It Ralph, Zootopia, writer, Cedar Rapids), and produced by Clark Spencer (Zootopia, Wreck-It Ralph, Bolt, Lilo & Stitch), Ralph Breaks the Internet hits theaters on Nov. 21, 2018.

Incredibles at Disney Hollywood Studios Municiberg at Pixar Place
The Disney parks have always done a great job refreshing areas to bring new and exciting themes to guests, but over the last few years, they've done an enormous amount to thrill guests more than ever before. From a Pixar standpoint, Pixar Pier and Lamplight Lounge (to name a few) at Disneyland, as well as the Toy Story Land expansion at Walt Disney World (Hollywood Studios) has been highly regarded by guests.

2019 is going to bring even more surprises with many more upgrades across Walt Disney World in Florida. Below is a summary of the Pixar changes which are in store — we cannot wait to check them out in person for the 30th anniversary celebration of Hollywood Studios.

Pixar Place (T.J. in 2009) - Future Home of Municiberg

Among the changes, we're probably most excited that the now vacant, Pixar Place (Jan. 18 - Sept. 30) will transform into a Municiberg city block from the Incredibles films. Guests will meet super suit designer Edna Mode and see some of her greatest creations. They will look for clues to the whereabouts of the youngest Incredible, the mischievous and multi-powered Jack-Jack. And at the end of the block, guests will celebrate the heroic deeds of Mr. Incredible, Mrs. Incredible, and Frozone, who will make appearances throughout the day during a party featuring lively music, dancing, interactive games and lots more Super fun.

Mike, Julie, Sulley & T.J (2005)

Also starting Jan. 18 (and ongoing), two popular guest favorites return to Disney’s Hollywood Studios when a door to the monster world opens inside Walt Disney Presents, welcoming Mike and Sulley from Pixar’s Monsters, Inc.

And then in spring 2019 (and ongoing), Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy will speed into Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This new show experience will welcome guests to the world of Pixar’s Cars films, bringing them face to face with racing legend Lightning McQueen. As the next generation of rookie racers, guests will learn from Lightning’s years of experience on the track. This will be the untold story of Lightning McQueen…as told by Lightning McQueen!

Lightning McQueen's Racing Academy Logo

Another article from June on the Disney Parks Blog notes, "At Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy, located near Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, you’ll come face-to-face with racing legend Lightning McQueen, who is excited to showcase what he’s learned over the years with you – the next generation of rookie racers. Of course, as Lightning McQueen has discovered throughout his career, things don’t always go according to plan, and he has to think fast to get back on course. With friends Tow Mater, Cruz Ramirez and the gang from Radiator Springs on his side, Lightning gears up for the challenge."

What do you think of the additions for 2019? Leave a comment below or chat about it with other fans in the Parks Forum thread.

A Celebration of Toy Story Land Comes to Life in the Form of an Astonishing 32,000-Piece Domino Creation

$

When the new Toy Story Land at Disney's Hollywood Studios opened, Disney noted that guests would be able to "PLAY BIG". Well, domino artist and popular YouTube star Lily Hevesh took that quote to a new level as she and her team created an astonishing Toy Story Land-inspired domino art piece. This gigantic creation was completed with 32,000 dominoes, including special effects with classic toys, as well as, new toys that can be purchased within Toy Story Land — Slinky Dog Light, Buzz Lightyear Bubble Blower, and Alien Swirling Saucer racers.

The incredible creation was set-up inside the Arena at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, where Lily and her team of four other domino experts spent nearly a week building the massive structure by freehand. Disney Parks has shared a short video compilation of the dominoes toppling which completed in less than five minutes. We were really hoping to have a glimpse of Lily kicking off the toppling by rolling the iconic Pixar ball into the dominoes (as seen in the video image below). However, you'll see several other special effects — including some familiar portraits all done in dominoes.

The grand finale of the domino creation features a wall that reveals numerous signs from Toy Story Land and other Disney•Pixar experiences at Disney Parks around the world. Back in June, we were lucky enough to be on-hand for the opening of Toy Story Land at Disney's Hollywood Studios, and this fun domino creation truly matched the magic that we felt when walking through Andy's Backyard. Disney Parks Blog has revealed that they were on-hand for the entire building process and will reveal a behind-the-scenes look, which we will be sure to update as soon as it is available.

Tim Allen Talks 'Toy Story 4' - Action, New Characters & the Story, Which Led Him To Have a Hard Time Not Getting Emotional

$

0
Tim Allen, the actor, and comedian behind Buzz Lightyear's brilliant vocal work has been on a recent press tour promoting the seventh season of his prime-time television show, Last Man Standing. Throughout his stops at various talk shows and print/radio interviews, he's also been chatting about another upcoming project that we're particularly excited about — Toy Story 4.

Most notably, yesterday he was on The Talk and noted that although he wasn't going to spoil anything (as he notes in all of his interview), the emotion in the film is so high that he wasn't able to deliver his lines in the final scene without getting choked up.
"This is an incredibly great story. It is so emotional and so funny — it's so big (the idea they've come up with), I'm startled. [Toy Story] 3 was, I thought, amazing. This [Toy Story 4]...[I] couldn't even get through the last scene!"

Below is a summary of other interviews (radio and print) where Tim also briefly discussed Toy Story 4.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tim notes that although the project isn't finalized, "If it’s anything near the first read through, it is great. Somehow they were able to advance this wonderful story that could have easily ended with number 3 being the best of the bunch. It’s emotional and funny and exciting and different and took it to a whole new level. It walks the line between comfort — you know what’s going on — and discomfort — wondering what’s gonna happen. It’s terrifically emotional.

Our friend, Heidi, from Toy Story Fangirl also found two radio interviews (embedded below) with Tim where he dished on some of his thoughts about the film.

In the Life of Dad Show, Allen was asked about his impressions of Toy Story 4 as well as Buzz's best character trait. You can listen to the TS4 portion of the interview at 15:00 into the interview (transcription below).

Buzz — His best character trait...he’s a little distracted, so he comes off as dim, and I can’t give you the line, but there’s a new character in Toy Story 4 that everybody cares about, and he’ll just say, like very flat, “I think he’s in great danger.” But everybody’s like, “Where is he? Where is he?” “I think he’s in great danger.” I like the fact that Buzz says things calmly, and it kind of settles it down. But, my god with everybody, 'the house is on fire', but Buzz would go, “I think the house is on fire.” I love the fact that he’s calm about stuff.
Toy Story 4 — they’re very early in my end of it, but I’ve read the whole thing, got all the way to the end and it’s a magical experience when they can get past Toy Story 3, which was a wonderful, wonderful movie on every level. This is expanded, clever, funny — it’s [Avengers Infinity War], if you like big movies. Infinity War had so many vignettes, but each vignette was a great little movie in itself, and they all fit together. Toy Story 4 is very much like that. It’s wonderful, and it ties it all together. I can’t give away any more, that’s it. It’s just wonderful.

Tim was also on Majic 95.5 and was asked about where the story is going and if Andy's going to be a Dad? (TS4 discussion starts at 4:58 into the interview.)

We’re just doing the first pass. I’ve done my first full script read with character voice in there and picture. And Buzz is involved in a huge adventure, with Woody and Bo Peep, and other characters that you may have seen and you may have not. There’s a bunch of new characters, a bunch of great new characters. It is a tremendous effort. I’m telling you, Toy Story 4 is wonderful. It’s wonderful, funny, and expansive, and emotional, and I’m telling you, get excited. If you like Toy Story, Pixar and Disney have done a tremendous job.

What are your thoughts from Tim's notes about the film? Leave a comment below or chat about Toy Story 4 with other fans in the Pixar Post Forum thread all about the film.

When the film was announced, there was quite a bit of trepidation surrounding why a fourth film would be green-lit, but these certainly sound like ringing endorsements to us with a full set of action, characters (new and old), as well as a high level of emotion that we've come to expect from Buzz, Woody, and the gang.

Pixar in a Box Lighting Example from Incredibles 2
In 2015, Pixar and Khan Academy (a free, online education platform) partnered to create Pixar in a Box. The series creates an engaging way for students and other curious folks (like ourselves) to learn about the artistic and technical process behind Pixar's films. As the series has continued to evolve, additional courses have been added (or updated) in order to keep the learning fresh.

The latest update to Pixar in a Box explores the topic of Lighting — one of our favorite topics — and includes a look at examples from Incredibles 2, Coco, and more. The course is broken down into several areas all with follow-on exercises to put your knowledge to the test:
  • Overview video
  • Light Quality
  • Light Roles
  • Virtual Lights
  • Character Lighting
  • Color Scripts
  • Master Lighting
  • Shot Lighting
  • Getting to Know Kim White
Check out the Overview video below, or even Danielle Feinberg's (Director of Photography - Lighting at Pixar) visit to a Michigan news station on Sunday morning (Oct 7) as she discusses lighting and how the computer assists in that process (to get inspired before diving into the course).

Edna Mode with Water Formed Jack-Jack from "Auntie Edna"
Moviegoers cannot forget the on-screen energy between Edna Mode and Jack-Jack and still want to know what happened at 'Auntie Edna's' when she babysat the feisty baby? Today, Pixar released a sneak peek look at the mini-movie, Auntie Edna, as the films official Twitter account released a 30-second clip that features several unseen powers of the tiny Parr tot.

If you recall, D23 Members who attended the recent tour of Pixar Animation Studios on August 6, were shown the film and the reactions were extremely positive with laughter spilling out of the theater from all attendees.

Jack Jack catching a ball and turning into smoke from Auntie Edna

Our favorite scene (pictured above) from the 30-second sneak peek is without a doubt the 'Incredible' effects and simulation used when Jack-Jack turns into a plume of smoke while playing catch. Not only was the gag unexpected but it was portrayed in the most amazing way — hats off to the team for creating this spectacular scene.

It should be noted that since this is a mini-movie, it will probably only be a few minutes in length (2 or 3 minutes probably) — assuming the previously marked mini-movies for in-home releases are any indication (e.g., Miss Fritter's Racing Skoool). While you wait to watch the short film, check out the book called Babysitting Mode which also takes a look at what happened on their bonding adventure together (video review on our YouTube channel, or click to purchase on Amazon).

Incredibles 2 will be available for digital release on October 23 and on Blu-ray, 4K on November 6.

Toy Story Land Buzz, Woody and Jessie in Holiday Attire
The popular Toy Story Land at Disney's Hollywood Studios is about to be a bit more festive this holiday season, as the newly opened land will be "dressing" up for holidays with specially themed decor — characters included. Starting on November 8, Toy Story Land will add oversized cranberry-and-popcorn garland, a holiday card "selfie" of Toy Story pals, an oversized Hamm sugar cookie, Green Alien ornaments and more will adorn the popular 11-acre land. In addition, the two Toy Story Land attractions will receive new holiday audio and music: guests will hear sleigh bells ringing on Slinky Dog Dash, while Alien Swirling Saucers will offer two holiday-themed music tracks, including new themed lighting within the attraction.

Today Disney Parks Blog shared the first look of what the Toy Story gang will wear this holiday season. Trading in their signature western vests, both Woody and Jessie will sport new holiday-inspired looks with new festive vests and holly decorations on their cowboy hats. The Return of Kari: How the Chatty Babysitter Almost Reprised Her Role in 'Incredibles 2'

"Now, who's ready for some neurological stimulation?" Did you know that the billion-dollar box office success of Incredibles 2 almost featured the return of everyone's favorite Pixar babysitter, Kari McKeen? That's right, the chatty teenager with a mouthful of orthodontia who played a minor, but pivotal role in the first Incredibles film (as well as, the short Jack-Jack Attack) almost reprised her role in Incredibles 2.

As director Brad Bird shares during one of the bonus features for Incredibles 2, one of his favorite deleted scenes from the film reveals how the erasing of Kari's memory (in Jack-Jack Attack) has made her parents leery of the Parr's as they stop over for a visit. "I thought that was an intriguing way, at one point, to open the film but ultimately it didn't really serve the story that we were trying to tell, and it had limitations to it,"shared Bird. While it would have been great to have Kari return for the sequel and listen to her non-stop teenage chatter, we have to agree with Brad Bird and the team on their decision to remove the scene, as we felt her story had been wrapped up perfectly with the short, Jack-Jack Attack.

Incredibles 2 will be available for digital release on October 23 and on Blu-ray, 4K on November 6.

Ed Catmull to Retire From Pixar at the End of 2018 — Jim Morris to Continue Duties as President

Ed Catmull Headshot
Ed Catmull, the co-founder of Pixar Animation Studios and one of the early pioneers of computer animation has announced today that he will retire from the Studio at the end of 2018 (and continue in an advisory role through July 2019).

Of course, this news shouldn't come as a total surprise as Mr. Catmull (73 years old) has had a 40-plus year career within the computer graphics industry and has certainly worked hard to step into the next phase of his life. The impact of his departure was announced by himself and included a statement from Bob Iger (via Associated Press) discussing the impact Ed has had in the industry.
Catmull was a pioneer in computer animation and technology in film. George Lucas hired him in 1979 to head Lucasfilm’s computer division. Catmull in 1986 co-founded Pixar with Steve Jobs and John Lasseter. He’s overseen films at Disney from “Frozen” to “Up” and has been recognized multiple times by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for advances in technology and computer graphics.
Since Jim Morris has been acting as Pixar's president since November 2014, he will continue within his role, as an immediate successor for Ed's role was not announced. (Ed was the acting president of Pixar and Disney Animation while each respective studio also had an individual president.) This also mirrors the dual Chief Creative Office roles of Pete Docter (Pixar) and Jennifer Lee (Disney), rather than John Lasseter holding that role across studios.

Pixar president, Jim Morris

Catmull also noted in a statement (via The Hollywood Reporter) that the path and the people were extraordinary throughout his career.

"Never in my wildest imagination could I have conceived of the path or the extraordinary people I have worked with over all of these years — the twists and turns, the ups and downs, along with exhilarating passion, talent, and dedication that have led to something extraordinary, something that has an enduring impact in the world.

From the request of George Lucas to bring technology to the film industry, to the vision of Steve Jobs, and the extraordinary freedom provided by [Disney executives] Bob Iger, Alan Horn, and Alan Bergman, we continue to dream of stories and ways of making those stories that always surprise. I have the mixed emotions that come with stepping away from a group of people I love, but also with the utmost pride and pleasure that we now have at both Pixar and Disney Animation the most dedicated and imaginative leaders I have worked with."

Congratulations are in order to Ed for his extremely impactful career and future retirement. Check out the related links below for additional information regarding Ed's book on managing a creative company as well as his impactful commencement address to John Hopkins University.

Pixar Animation Studios widely popular Halloween Party is just around the corner, but do you know the story behind the fun? In a newly released Pixar Studio Story, Lead Technical Director, Michael Frederickson (who also happens to be the Master of Ceremonies for the annual event) shared some fun stories and tidbits about the"very fun chaos" of Halloween at Pixar.

Throughout the years, the Halloween festivities have grown to epic proportions, whether it be the decor, the costumes, and even the prizes. Now, in the past the prizes were tied to a dollar amount (i.e., airplane tickets to anywhere in the world, etc.), well, now (thanks to Frederickson) the prizes are even better...as they are now priceless and FUN! Past examples include:
  • Grand Prize: Having Ed Catmull field your parents IT call the next time they phone you for tech help.
  • Coolest Costume "Craftwise" Prize: Gets a 3D printed trophy of themselves displayed in the Pixar Trophy case in the atrium. 2017, Coolest Costume "Craftwise" winner Edwin Fabian recently shared a photo with his trophy displayed in the Pixar atrium (see photo below).
  • Smaller prizes have included Director Mark Andrews coming up with a Haiku off the spot and yelling it to the winner and audience from the catwalk above the atrium. Catered lunch in one of the Pixar elevators and of course, the opportunity to launch watermelons off the roof.

Tom Hanks Notes 'Toy Story 4' Ending is "A Moment in History"— What Does it Mean?

Woody, Toy Story 4 Poster and Tom Hanks
On a recent press tour for the television show, Last Man Standing, Tim Allen (voice of Buzz Lightyear) had been briefly chatting about how emotional the ending of Toy Story 4 is. Allen noted that the ending was hard for him to get through without getting emotional — Tom Hanks (voice of Woody) recently expressed a similar tone for the ending of the film, noting it is, "a moment in history."

In an interview on Chris Evans' BBC Radio 2 show, Chris noted that he and Tom Hanks had a planned 10-minute interview ended up going on for over an hour. As part of the conversation about Tom's book and typewriters, they chatted very briefly about the fourth entry to the Toy Story franchise. The full interview will be released next week on Chris' show, but he pre-released the Toy Story 4 clip yesterday.

To hear the ending defined as historical is quite profound and has our minds racing. Is it related to the real-life passing of Don Rickles (voice of Mr. Potato Head), or Woody not being able to find Bo Peep (the early plotline), or something else entirely?

Our transcription of the chat is below, or you can listen to the discussion on Chris' show at BBC Radio (the snippet starts at 1:46:15).

Tom Hanks Interview Transcription:
--
"It was the first time we were going to be recording the end of the movie and Toy Story [4] is going to have an impactful ending. The way you record Toy Story is...you're in a room with the team that has created it and when I went in for my last day of recording I wanted to have my back to them because usually you're facing them so you can look right up and you can talk about it. But, I didn't want to see them and I didn't want them to...I wanted them to pretend they couldn't see me. When I realized what they were going for, yeah, I realized, 'Oh, this is a moment is history'.

Here's the thing about those geniuses that are there at Pixar and everybody that has ever been involved with any of the toy Toy Story [films] think that they invented something there and the extraordinary truth about them all [the films]...not only has the technology, but the emotional range of those movies has become more and more deep and profound and effecting. And, it's almost a curiosity of 'Why it is so?' because they're toys, you know? [laughs] And yet, it's the power I think of the connection that we all have as children, but also as the creators of the world that our toys inhabit. It is a very, very, very special collection of movies that have been put together that I think hits each one of us in a completely individual way. It's like we carry all of our entire emotional lives in the memories of our own individual toys."
--
I wonder why Tom didn't want the Pixar employees to see him record some of these lines and wanted it to be presented without feedback like normal? What was it about this scene that is choking up Tim Allen and Tom Hanks? Leave a comment below or chat about it with other fans in the Pixar Post Forum thread about Toy Story 4 interviews.
