Earlier this year at the D23 Expo, John Lasseter revealed that Incredibles 2 would pick up moments after the completion of the first film. Today, we get a glimpse (thanks to an Entertainment Weekly first look) at that very scene. If you recall, the Underminer had just burst his way to the surface streets as Dash was celebrating his race victory. As Dash sat atop Mr. Incredible's shoulders, the family (in street clothes) looked at each other and immediately knew what they had to do — get into their super-suits and defeat the Underminer.
Although we already mentioned John noted where the film picks up, Brad Bird also expanded in the interview, "Incredibles 2 picks up, literally, where the first film left off, with Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl battling The Underminer, while Violet and Dash are stuck with babysitting Jack-Jack. That’s all we’re saying for now, but rest assured, there are a lot more superheroics in store for our ‘family dynamic.’"
Like most of Brad's project's he's keeping this tightly under wraps, which will only add to the excitement and anticipation for the film.
We also knew from the D23 Expo that the original vocal cast would return minus a swap for Dash (now Huck Milner), but Tracking Board has also reported a few weeks back that Bob Odenkirk and Catherine Keener would also be joining the vocal cast — although we don't know what roles they will play, their unique voices could easily lend themselves to villains or heroes.
The EW article also expands on Elastigirl's character with a great interview with vocal actor, Holly Hunter. Holly expands on her respect for working with Brad and the development that has been added to her character, “This time (working in the vocal booth) was so much fun because I know Brad so much better, and the way the story unfolded for me in the recording sessions has been kind of stratospheric. Brad’s imagination veers off into intensely funny stuff, and I find that so fresh. And of course, that also includes the character development of Helen throughout this second movie. It just feels really rich, and like…this guy is a true feminist.”
An expanded plot synopsis (posted below) has also been updated on Pixar's homepage, but one final note that caught our eye from the EW article was a note about "the family’s sleek new hideout headquarters". We can't wait to see what kind of gadgets and hijinks will take place there.

Everyone’s favorite family of superheroes is back in “Incredibles 2” – but this time Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is in the spotlight, leaving Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) at home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell) and Dash (voice of Huck Milner) to navigate the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life. It’s a tough transistion for everyone, made tougher by the fact that the family is still unaware of baby Jack-Jack’s emerging superpowers. When a new villain hatches a brilliant and dangerous plot, the family and Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson) must find a way to work together again—which is easier said than done, even when they’re all Incredible.Read the full EW article here. Incredibles 2 will hit theaters on June 15, 2018.
