In some very exciting news revealed via the D23 Expo app, it was announced that Brad Bird, Nicole Paradis Grindle, and John Walker would be on hand July 14 for an Incredibels 2 signing session. In addition to the exclusive artwork-signing news, there were also a few items to call out which have been previously unannounced.
THE TEAM
Firstly, one could assume that Brad Bird would be directing the superhero-sequel (especially since he was writing the script as well), but it wasn't officially announced until now. Note - it was highlighted in a February 2016 Oh My Disney article that Brad Bird would direct, but we didn't note that as "official" since that article had corrections regarding other directors as well (we believed that was speculative at the time).
Additionally, we were thrilled to see John Walker (Producer of the first film) will be working alongside Brad again, along with the announcement of Producer, Nicole Paradis Grindle (Simulation Manager on the first film) joining the team as well.
Ralph Eggleston has also been billed as the Production Designer (Art Director on the first film) and we couldn't be more excited as Ralph's prior work on Inside Out, or even the humor in his short For The Birds (as examples) have always resonated with us.
CONCEPT ARTWORK
Along with the signing announcement in the app, it appears we may have our first look at some concept artwork for the film as well (we're assuming this will be the artwork signed at the event). In taking a closer look you'll spot a few items of note. The image seems to indicate the The Underminer will make an appearance, along with many of the old gang (Frozone and Edna Mode). It also appears that the family will be of a similar age as before - which is very exciting to see as this was a hotly rumored topic among fans. Oh, and the raccoon?
THE TITLE
Previously billed as The Incredibles 2, the title appears to have been shortened to just Incredibles 2. Time will tell if the title has officially been changed, but Pixar's official website still has the project including the "The".
What are your thoughts on the news — Are you excited that Brad Bird is directing? What are your thoughts regarding the concept artwork? What about the title - do you think it will be Incredibles 2 or The Incredibles 2? Leave a comment below or chat about it in more detail with other Pixar fans in the Pixar Post Forum dedicated the upcoming film.
Incredibles 2 will hit theaters June 15, 2018.
