The 60th San Francisco International Film Festival is well underway (April 5-19) and although the two-week event is coming to a close next week, this weekend Pixar fans still have a chance to catch up on some great Pixar news. The short film, Lou, will be screened as part of the Shorts 5: Family Films event this Saturday (April 15, 10:00 AM PT at the Castro theater) — Director, Dave Mullins & Producer, Dana Murray will also be on hand to sign posters after the event. The complete schedule of short films, their descriptions, and information regarding ticket purchases can be found on the Festival's website.
The smallest members of your family, the young at heart, and everyone in between will find something to love in this exciting lineup of films. This eclectic collection has the power to connect us with storytellers in far-off destinations, from China and South Africa to our own backyard. Works from emerging filmmakers are placed alongside those by veteran artists, including Oscar-winner Patrick Osborne, Festival alum Julia Pott, and Pixar Animation Studios, here presenting its latest work. Recommended for ages 5 and up.

The great news is that Dave Mullins will also be holding a workshop, Q&A, and second screening of Lou as part of a session held at the Walt Disney Family Museum later that same day (April 15 at 3:00 PM PT) called, Finding Characters in Unlikely Places with Pixar's Newest Short: A Workshop for Kids. Tickets are in high demand for this event and are listed as RUSH, meaning that tickets may become available on the day-of the event — so be ready to keep an eye out at Noon when tickets may go on sale (read more details on Festival's site).

Dave noted on Instagram, "I'm teaching a master class at the Walt Disney Museum tomorrow afternoon with my sweetheart Lisa (who built the original Lou maquette). She's going to build a Lou puppet live!" We are bummed that we cannot attend the event and would love to be able to see this session in person — please let us know if you attended and pass along some details.
Join Pixar Animation Studios Director Dave Mullins for a screening of and discussion about his new animated short Lou. Pixar has created some of the most original and beloved characters in the history of animation, from Woody and Buzz to Dory and Hank. Mullins will show how the story of Lou developed from an idea to the finished film. Participants will learn how his unique character came to be, and how inspiration can be found in the most unlikely places. Dave will lead hands-on activities, teaching participants how to draw the newest Pixar star and guiding them through sculpting and drawing exercises as they create their own characters. Please bring in one item for inspiration that you would typically find in your school’s lost-and-found box. Presented in partnership with the Walt Disney Family Museum. This is a drop-off class for kids ages 8–12. Ticket price does not include museum admission.
