Pixar has just announced that Toy Story 4 will be pushed back to 2019 as the studio moves up The Incredibles 2 for a June 15, 2018 theatrical release. As studios typically change release dates with films, Toy Story 4 has has three 'known' dates - first announced for 2017, then slated for June 15, 2018 and now set for June 21, 2019. The changes have many fans wondering why? Could it be that The Incredibles 2 is moving along quicker than the studio expected or could it be that the film was pushed to coincide with the opening of the new Toy Story Land set to open at Disney's Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney Resort in Orlando, FL. Whatever the reason for the changes we are still thrilled to step back into the world of our favorite toys - even if we have to wait a little longer.

“We love these characters so much; they are like family to us. We don’t want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what’s gone before. Toy Story 3 ended Woody and Buzz’s story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another Toy Story movie. But when Andrew, Pete, Lee and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie—and I wanted to direct it myself.” - John Lasseter

Toy Story 4 will be directed by John Lasseter and co-directed by Josh Cooley with the screenplay written by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack. Back in 2015, it was announced by John Lasseter that Toy Story 4 would be a love story between Woody and Bo Peep - there are no updates to note any changes to the storyline.

As for the exciting release date change for The Incredibles 2, in a recent interview with EW Writer/Director Brad Bird shared the sequel is well underway, “It’s very actively moving, and we’re excited about it,” he said.“[We’re] trying to take it in some new directions.” Taking us back to Metroville through musical cues will be composer Michael Giacchino teaming back up with Brad Bird.
