The nominations for the 67th Annual British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards (BAFTA) have been announced early this morning and Monsters University has garnered a nomination for Best Animated Feature (along with Despicable Me 2 and Frozen). With an award season that has been slightly disappointing with Pixar omissions, it was a sigh of relief to hear that the team behind Monsters University is being recognized with this prestigious honor.

For those who are not familiar with the BAFTA Awards, it is an award show that is held in Central London and is considered to be the British version of The Academy Awards, being nominated and recognized is an honor in itself.

Just like the Academy Awards, the Best Animated Feature Film category was a late introduction to award show. The BAFTAs included the category back in 2006 with Pixar Animation Studios winning five out of the seven years. The two years where Pixar lost were in 2006 as Cars lost to Happy Feet and there wasn't a Pixar nomination in 2011, which would have been the year for Cars 2.

Last year at the 66th Annual BAFTA Awards, Pixar's Brave was nominated and won the Best Animated Feature Award. Let's hope that the momentum can continue and we can all celebrate another Pixar Animation Studio win for Monsters University.

The BAFTA Awards will be held on February 16, 2014 at the Royal Opera House in Central London.
