At the end of the 2001 Pixar film, Monsters, Inc., Mike and Sulley's world was turned upside down as they learned that laugh power was 10-times more powerful than screams. But, we don't need to remind you of that, do we?
The hilarious 10-part Disney+ series (Produced by Disney Television Animation), Monsters at Work picks up the day after the events unfold at the famous factory and introduces us to a new team of monsters (along with some familiar faces).
If you've been watching along with us, you know that we've been live-streaming after each episode on our YouTube channel to explore the humor, animation, music, and more from the new series (catch up on those prior discussions in our Monsters at Work YouTube playlist).
Due to those discussions, we had the opportunity to take a deep dive into Monsters at Work with none other than the show's developer and executive producer, Bobs Gannaway.
We couldn't be more thrilled to share the first of our two-part interview with Bobs as we explore everything from the cliffhangers in the show's final episode, to the brilliant pop-culture references (e.g., Star Wars), and even the origins of many of the characters.
That is where we pick up with part one of our discussion with Bobs — exploring all the nooks and crannies of the story and each of the main characters.
Without further delay, check out the interview directly on our YouTube channel (or embedded below) and learn about how Val was adopted and came from a family of little monsters (hence her last name of "Little"), or how Duncan was named after a roadside stop to eat pea soup while Bobs was traveling with Pixar alumn, Rob Gibbs.
We cannot thank Bobs enough for taking the time to discuss the show as in-depth as he did and for sharing his (and the team's) wonderful passion while creating the show.
Be sure to check out Part 2 of our interview which will be releasing on September 1, alongside the final episode of Monsters at Work, titled It's Laughter They're After.
Be sure to watch Monsters at Work, streaming now on Disney+.
