The 72nd Annual Emmy Awards are right around the corner and Pixar has been honored with a nomination. Airing September 20, 2020, Jimmy Kimmel will host the awards with a virtual audience and virtual acceptance speeches due to the impact of COVID-19.
The 2020 nominations were announced in the early morning of July 28 and we were thrilled to see the streaming platform, Disney+, honored with a total of 19 Emmy nominations. While the majority of the nominations went to the amazing Star Wars show, The Mandalorian, Pixar Animation Studios was honored with one nomination for Forky Asks a Question in the Short Form Animated Program category.
This is particularly exciting because it is only Pixar's second Emmy nomination (and first nomination for a self-created project). They were nominated in 2018 for "Outstanding Original Interactive Program" as part of a team (Disney, Pixar, Magnopus) for their Coco VR experience released on Oculus.
Each episode of Forky Asks a Question features the Toy Story 4 breakout character, Forky (voiced by Tony Hale), as he figures out "what life is" by asking silly and poignant questions to other fellow toys in Bonnie's room. Directed by Bob Peterson and produced by Mark Nielsen, each installment in the 10-episode series is about three-to-four minutes long. Paired with fantastic storylines and witty humor, it's no wonder that the team was honored with an Emmy nomination.

It should also be noted that A Celebration of the Music from Coco was nominated for "Outstanding Contemporary Hairstyling for a Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Program"— that is an extremely specific category! Although Pixar themselves wasn't nominated (Eventvision, Inc. was the official nominee), we're excited to see the recognition for the beautiful event shown on Disney+ and recorded Live at the Hollywood Bowl in November 2019.
If you haven't watched A Celebration of the Music from Coco yet, do yourself a favor and check it out — it's beautifully directed, performed, and is simply a lot of fun seeing and hearing the songs of Coco (as well as other traditional songs) in this way. We had a ton of fun watching it as a family and dancing along.
