2019 D23 Expo News: Pete Docter Talks 'Soul', Dan Scanlon talks 'Onward'—Bonus, Step Inside The Van From The Film

The official D23 website has provided some exciting news regarding what fans can expect to experience during the feature films keynote presentation on Saturday, August 24 at 10:00 AM.

D23 noted, "Go Behind the Scenes with The Walt Disney Studios, in Hall D23, as Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Chief Creative Officer Jennifer Lee and Pixar Animation Studios’ Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter present never-before-seen footage and share surprise announcements. You’ll also catch musical performances and appearances by all-star voice talent from upcoming animation films."

In addition to some great behind-the-scenes looks at Frozen II, director Dan Scanlon and producer Kori Rae will introduce you to the characters of Pixar’s upcoming original feature film Onward. But, that’s not all — you’ll get to hear director Pete Docter and producer Dana Murray share some details on next summer’s original feature Soul.

The note regarding the voice talent and a song has us thinking that there will be a musical performance from Frozen II, but hopefully, this will also include announcements of the actors behind Soul as well as a cameo from the actors behind Onward (Chris Pratt, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Tom Holland). It could also include (potentially) a performance from Randy Newman since he will be in attendance at the event as well (more details below), but they likely won't since he performed a Toy Story medley during the 2017 D23 Expo.

It's great to hear that all of the news and information won't be exclusively launched during the animation panel — D23 also notes, "all weekend long from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily on the Show Floor, the studios will team up once again for an immersive animation experience at D23 Expo. You’ll have the opportunity to learn more about Frozen 2 and Onward while also getting the chance to meet the teams behind the movies and receive autograph signings of exclusive art and a promotional giveaway!"

One of the best parts of the Expo will allow fans to step inside a real-life version of Guinevere, the van featured in Onward. We wrote a post about the real-life van last week and Pixarian Jay Ward confirmed that the van will be at the event. "Decked out with crescent moon windows and a “Pegacorn” (part Pegasus, part unicorn, of course) painted on the sides, Guinevere will offer guests a taste of the adventure that the two teenage elf brothers embark upon in the film."
