RUMOR: 'Toy Story' Marionette Show to Replace Country Bear Jamboree Ahead of the Magic Kingdom's 50th Anniversary Celebration

Hold onto your hat, there's about to be a showdown in Frontierland at The Walt Disney World Resort, as talk of a new attraction has started buzzing all over the internet. WDW News Today is reporting on a controversial rumor of a Toy Story-themed marionette show replacing the almost 50-year old original show attraction, The Country Bear Jamboree.

The Country Bear Jamboree was an opening day attraction when the Magic Kingdom at The Walt Disney World Resort opened its doors back on October 1, 1971. The overwhelming popularity of the attraction, had Disney Imagineers build a second version at Disneyland (which opened March 4, 1972), and a third version for Tokyo Disneyland (which opened April 15, 1983). Just as the Disney Parks continue to change and evolve with new rides and attractions, the Disneyland version of The Country Bear Jamboree was closed on September 9, 2001 and replaced with The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, which opened on April 11, 2003, while the Tokyo Disneyland and Walt Disney World versions both remain open — for now.

While this is just a rumor (as WDWNT is not including a source of these details), it does pose an interesting conversation of replacing the nostalgia of The Country Bear Jamboree show with a more current property in the Disney franchise. Our thoughts are, while we do enjoy The Country Bear Jamboree, we can't help but think of how incredible the addition of a "Woody's Roundup" themed show would be to the Magic Kingdom. Which has us wondering if this show would feature animatronic puppets or would the show cast performers with large scale marionettes (similar to the Miguel marionette featured at EPCOT)?

The popularity of the Toy Story franchise has only grown since the film first released in 1995 and with the theatrical release of Toy Story 4 just mere days away, it's only fitting that additional Toy Story-themed attractions would enter Disney Parks. Currently the Magic Kingdom has one Toy Story-themed attraction, Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin, an intergallactic adventure themed after Buzz Lightyear. Our excitement of a newly re-imagined Toy Story show comes with other Disney Park fans sadness, with many expressing the same concern of "why?", why add another Toy Story-themed attraction after the Toy Story Land addition at Disney's Hollywood Studios?

Again, nothing has been announced, however, this rumor may be one of the many breaking news stories that will come about during the 2019 D23 Expo on August 23-25.
